Structural, Morphological and Physical Characterization of Carbon Fly Ash

Carbon fly ash (CFA) is the principal industrial waste byproduct from burning fossil fuel (coal combustion) for thermal generation of electricity. CFA a gray or black powdery solid that constituted mostly metal oxides (Al, Si Fe and Ca), unburned carbon (UC) other inorganic substance. The management has thus been matter concern given requirement large area land its disposal potential causing pollution air, water, effects on human health. Physical chemical characteristics important, as these influence subsequent use disposal. X-ray diffraction, fluorescence, scanning microscopy with an energy dispersive spectroscopy, FTIR, BET was common techniques employed to characterize FA. Characterization by XRD analysis identified presence quartz, mullite sillimanite phases; while FTIR results allowed identification vibrational bands, characteristic Si-O-Si Si-O bonds. EDS coupled SEM verifying composition samples consistent sought morphological validate proposed methodology. Surface analyses (BET) showed possess active 6.02 m2 · g-1.
